Teens today have many ways to communicate with each other, family, friends, co-workers etc. Online communication being one of the most popular next to text messaging. Many teens use instant messaging, email, chat rooms, and blogs. These types of online communication have many positive and negative effects on the user. These forms of online communication give teens the freedom to talk with others online and keep in touch with friends and family.
One type of communication online includes email which happens to be the most popular form of online communication. Email allows users to send and receive mail from others. This may seem harmless but there are many computer viruses that can be given to a user's computer through email; also the threat of online hackers and predators poses concern for many users. Yet if users are safe about their online email use they will not converse with others they do not know and they would not open mail that has been moved to the "spam" folder or that looks harm full to the computer. email can allow people to communicate easily with others and can be a valuable tool for online users, but they must be aware of the possible threats.
Another form of popular online communication is instant messaging which allows users to communicate by sending short messages online and receiving messages back instantly. This tool is very popular with teens and allows them to communicate easily. one threat that is always evident through instant messaging is the possibility of being stalked online by a predator. Users are allowed to send messages to whomever they want, this creates a lack of privacy and limits the security of a user. Instant messaging, though having a few down sides has many positive effects. it makes communication almost instant and very easy for anyone to use, this is what attracts many teens to instant messaging sites.
Another form of online communication that may not be as popular as email and instant messaging it chat rooms and blogs. These forms of online communication are the most hazardous, because privacy is limited and the threat of online hackers and stalkers is the highest. you can not trust the user you are communicating with unless you know who they are definitely. even though there are many negative connotations with blogs and chat rooms there are some positive aspects to them. you can still communicate easily and quickly with others online. users have alot of freedom in chat rooms and blogs yet if they are care full they should not encounter any problems.
